The New York Times scooped an amazing feet of political hoaxing in yesterday's paper, and they had so much respect for the two individuals that they put them in the arts section. Over the past several days we have all heard the mainstream media going on about Sarah Palin's lack of geographical knowledge. Well, maybe she does know that Africa is a continent as well. From the article:Who would say such a thing? On Monday the answer popped up on a blog and popped out of the mouth of David Shuster, an MSNBC anchor. “Turns out it was Martin Eisenstadt, a McCain policy adviser, who has come forward today to identify himself as the source of the leaks,” Mr. Shuster said.Trouble is, Martin Eisenstadt doesn’t exist. His blog does, but it’s a put-on. The think tank where he is a senior fellow — the Harding Institute for Freedom and Democracy — is just a Web site. The TV clips of him on YouTube are fakes.Well, bravo to the two really in charge! These two filmmakers Eitan Gorlin and Dan Mirvish apparently created the character of Martin Thomas Eisenstadt as an idea for a film they wished to create. The article details the characters development from parking attendant to McCain campaign insider and member of the Harding Institute, also a false agency. Also according to The Times, the validity of the false identity had been discovered prior to the "leaking" of information. Sourcewatch.com has an article on Eisenstadt and The Harding Institute.Hopefully a lesson was learned hear by all, that what seems to good to be true probably is. Once again our faith in the media's ability to verify it's stories has been shaken, and it's apparent inabillity to voice it's apologies for misinformation is a whisper when compared to it's catcalling headlines of untruths.
